The Anime Film Gundam Seed FREEDOM opened in Japan on January 26 and became the franchise’s highest-earning film.
Odex announced on March 21 that the Philippine fan screening of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM anime sequel film will open on April 13.
The film has been shown in 354 cinemas across Japan since January 26. And additional screenings in 4DX, MX4D, and Dolby Cinema formats began on February 9.
The film topped the Japanese box office for three days straight, selling 634,182 tickets and earning 1,065,983,130 yen (about US$7.20 million). This set a new record for the Gundam franchise’s highest three-day opening. The film is scheduled to be screened in 56 countries and territories.
The film is now the top-grossing movie in the Gundam franchise in Japan, surpassing the 1982 Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space anime film, which earned 2.3 billion yen (US$15.5 million by current conversion). As of March 24, the film has earned a total of 4,107,911,810 yen (about US$27.14 million).
Mitsuo Fukuda, director of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, directed the film at Bandai Namco Filmworks. He also co-wrote the script with his late wife Chiaki Morosawa and Liu Goto. Hisashi Hirai, known for his work on Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, designed the characters.
